3 Ways Small Business Blogs Compete With the “Big Guns”

It used to be that the bigger your marketing budget, the bigger your voice. Not true in the blogosphere. Today, if you’re a small or medium size business, you have many advantages over large corporations when it comes to communicating information online.

  1. Faster Response Time– The beauty of a business blog is that you can instantly create and publish content. Small businesses have the added advantage of less red tape, fewer internal approval processes and faster communication of information.  The “Wal-Marts” of the world aren’t as nimble. Take advantage of it! When good content ideas strike, time and flexibility are on your side.
  2. Bigger Personalities – A critical rule of blogging: keep it real! Successful business blogs show off the people or person behind their brand. Bigger companies have to work hard to distil their brand into a voice that doesn’t sound “too corporate.” Small businesses, on the other hand, typically have cultures that carry fewer marketing and PR restrictions. So, flaunt that funny, candid and real side of your personality. That transparent and honest “voice” of your blog will not only win you readers, it will win you trust and respect. When it’s time for readers to make a buying decision, guess which business will stand out in their mind?
  3. Niche Content – Whether it’s geography, customer service or your target audience, chances are you’ve got a niche that larger corporations can’t or won’t address. When planning your blog calendar, be sure to include categories and posts that highlight your niche. Niche-driven content will include keywords and phrases that the corporations simply won’t focus on—making you more competitive on Google and more visible to your target market.
